Client: City of Swan
Completed: July 2023
The City of Swan engaged Civil Sciences and Engineering to undertake foam bitumen stabilisation mix designs for 9 road rehabilitation projects. CSE determined the FBS specifications including optimum binder ratio, binder types and spread rates.
Core profile data and design FBS thicknesses provided by the City were used in conjunction with historical data of foamed bitumen stabilised pavements to determine site specific designs.
Pavement composition and subsequent material densities were assessed to ensure the spread rate and binder contents remained in an acceptable range. Projects constrained by finish levels were identified and suitable options presented with emphasis placed on project cost as well as ease of constructability. Where appropriate the design FBS thickness was increased by the design asphalt thickness to account for the removal of material post stabilisation.
