Detailed Design - Road Upgrades
Client: Department of Biodiversity, Conservation, and Attractions
Completed: May 2023
DBCA enlisted the services of CSE to undertake the detailed design for the upgrade of unsealed roads and carparks within the Karijini National Park. The project scope encompassed a feature survey, detailed civil design and tender documentation.
The survey was conducted with GNSS receivers as rovers and a local base station. The survey spanned a total linear distance of 50 kilometres, with surveyed cross sections spanning an approximate width of 50 meters. This considerable width was necessitated by anticipated realignments and extensive drainage enhancements.
The survey data re-created a 3D model of the site, forming the foundational basis for the subsequent detailed design phase. The detailed design encompassed pavement design, drainage design, catchment analysis, geometric road design, quantity surveying, cost estimation, construction specifications, contract documentation, and tender evaluation.
The geometric design included horizontal and vertical realignments, with a particular emphasis on comprehensive drainage and catchment analysis to ensure the development of designs capable of withstanding a 1-in-50-year event.
Throughout the design process, due consideration was given to environmental and Aboriginal cultural heritage concerns, with a commitment to the responsible use and recycling of in-situ materials for construction whenever feasible.
