Client: City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder
Completed: September 2023
The City engaged CSE to carry out the pavement investigation and design for the upgrade of the Great Eastern Highway and Johns Road intersection. The construction of the Lynas Rare Earth processing plant will result in a considerable increase of heavy vehicles, with the intersection requiring upgrading to accommodate this. Investigation works comprised of a site inspection, test pits, sampling and lab testing.
The pavement condition was evaluated which included structural analysis based on the expected increased traffic loads and volumes, with multiple rehabilitation options presented. Mechanistic and empirical pavement thickness designs were conducted inline with Main Roads WA guidelines. Final designs considered initial project outlay as well as whole of life cost based on expected maintenance over its design life.
