About us
At Civil Sciences and Engineering (CSE), we’re more than an engineering consultancy, we’re a small but ambitious team, building something unique in Western Australia. Founded by a graduate engineer and a guru with 50+ years of experience, we’ve grown quickly by being adaptable, curious, and client focused.
We’re not the kind of company where everything is already set in stone. Instead, we’re constantly refining, improving, and looking for better ways to serve our clients. That means every team member has a chance to shape how we do things. If you value culture, collaboration, and innovation as much as technical excellence, you’ll feel right at home here.
The Role
We are looking for a Civil Design Engineer who thrives on technical design delivery and wants to help shape a department from the ground up. This is a hands-on role with the opportunity to step into leadership as the business grows. For the right candidate, progression into Senior Civil Design Engineer is highly achievable.
Your scope will include:
• Delivering and overseeing civil engineering designs for roads, transport, and commercial/industrial projects.
• Providing expert Civil 3D input and ensuring work meets client, regulatory, and quality standards.
• Leading tendering, procurement, and bid preparation for design work.
• Mentoring engineers, designers, and drafters to build a strong, capable team.
• Supporting client engagement, proposals, and scoping activities to strengthen CSE’s reputation.
• Working with leadership to refine processes, improve workflows, and build departmental structure.
• Ensuring compliance with Australian Standards, MRWA requirements, and local authority approvals.
About You
This role is not for someone who just wants to clock in, follow established processes, and do A–B–C tasks every day. We want someone who’s excited to help build, not just maintain.
You’ll bring:
• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (mandatory).
• Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status or progress towards it (highly regarded).
• 6+ years’ civil design experience, including hands-on Civil 3D expertise.
• A solid grasp of design workflows and the agility to adapt to shifting project demands.
• Track record in road and carpark design, subdivisions, and transport projects.
• Tendering, procurement, and bid management experience.
• Experience sourcing and managing external consultants across engineering, costing, and design.
• Confidence working directly with clients and building long-term relationships.
• Ability to guide and support juniors while still being hands-on yourself.
• Adaptability - happy to wear a few hats, swap tasks, and step in where needed.
• A passion for innovation, problem-solving, and helping a business grow.
Must have:
• Advanced Civil 3D skills (recent, hands-on use)
• Full working rights in Australia
• White Card
• Current AU driver’s licence
• Strong WA approvals knowledge (MRWA/local government)
• Willingness to work across both technical delivery and operational improvements.
Highly desirable:
• Registration under WA Professional Engineers Act.
• Experience with Recap Pro, AutoTURN, SIDRA, drainage packages, and project management systems.
• Competency with SharePoint, Teams, and other Microsoft systems.
What Success Looks Like
• 3 months: Deliver 1–2 live designs end-to-end in Civil 3D; implement baseline templates/checklists.
• 6 months: Lead small design packages; uplift QA to align with MRWA/Austroads; mentor a junior/designer.
• 12 months: Establish a lightweight Civil Design Playbook (workflows, gates, templates) and be a go-to for repeat clients.
What We Offer
• Salary Range: $100,000 to $130,000 based on experience + Superannuation
• A chance to be part of building something, not just maintaining it.
• The opportunity to leave your mark on a department and grow with the business.
• A collaborative, culture-driven environment where your input matters.
• Flexibility, trust, and autonomy in how you work.
• Exposure to diverse projects across WA and beyond.
• A role that rewards innovation, adaptability, and leadership with genuine long-term career opportunities.
