18.1 MLTP Grade Separation - Pavement Design

Client: BG&E Resources

Completed: September 2023

Rio Tinto Iron Ore (RTIO) has commissioned BG&E Resources to handle the Civil design for the upcoming 18.1 Tom Price Mainline Grade Separation project. This project is located on Northwest Coastal Highway H007. The grade separation initiative will be executed as a collaboration between RTIO and Main Roads WA. BGER have engaged CSE to undertake the pavement design for the project.

We carried out mechanistic-empirical design procedures in accordance with Main Roads WA specifications and guidelines and utilised CIRCLY 7 software to design the pavement thickness. Our engineers proposed design options to utilise naturally occurring materials and options were presented for unbound granular, cement modified and foam bitumen stabilisation.
